Estructura de el pasado simple y el pasado progresivo

P/P subject + was/were + (verb+ ing) + complement ---- affirmative statements
Examples: i was eating pizza
they were paying soccer


P/P subject + was/were + not + (verb+ ing) + complement ---- negative statements
Examples: iwas not eating pizza
they were not playing soccer

Yes/No questions
was/were + PP/subject + (verb+ing) + complement + ?
Examples: was i eating pizza?    Yes, you were/ No, they weren´t
were they playing soccer?      Yes, they were/ No, they weren´t

W-H questions
WH-words + was/were + P.P/subject + (verb+ ing) + complement + ?
Example: Where were you eating pizza?

Past progressive and simple past tense

Use the past progressive to describe an action that was in progress at a specific time in the past
examples: my wife and i were aeating at 6:00pm
they were not skiing
what were you doing at 7:00pm?

Use the past progressive with the simple past tense to talk about an action that was interrupted by another action. Use the simple past tense for the interrupted action.
Important: Use WHEN  to introduce the simple-past-tense action or use WHILE to introduce the past-progressive action
Examples: i was taking a shower when the phone rang
while they were skiing, the storm started

Simple past tense

Use the simple past tense to talk about actions, states or situations that are now finished
Examples:Basho lived in the seventeenth century
               He was a poet
               He didnt stay in one place
               Where did he travel

You can use the simple past tense wiyh time expressions that refer to the past. Some examples of past time expressions are: Last week, by 1681, in the seventeenth century, 300 years ago.
Examples:By 1681, he had many students
               He died more than 300 years ago

Important: The simple past tense of regular verbs is formed by adding: d, ed, or, eed

Live                       Lived
Travel                    Traveled
Study                     Studied
Hop                       Hopped

Present Progressive and simple present tense (Presente progresivo y presente simple)

Use the present progressive to describe something that is happening RIGHT NOW
Example: she is speaking english right now
               Vanessa is talking to Stefania

Use the present progressive to describe something that is happening in the extend present time
Example: We are studying grammar this month
               Laura is studying in France this year

Use the simple present tense to describe what regulary, usually happens, or what always happens
Example: Eva talkS to Karl everyday
              She speakS spanish at home
              She usually wearS jeans
Adverbs of frequency: Always, usually, often, sometime, rarely/seldom, never.
